safeTALK Gullanes 24th of October 2013

safeTALK Gullanes 24th of October 2013  – 3 hour course for everyone who may come in contact with persons who are suffering mental health issues or suicidation.

Galway East Life Support Group ,  G.E.L.S. , are providing a number of courses over the Autumn Winter Months for opeople who are interested in learing the basic steps to recognoize persons with thoughts of suicide and to connect them with suicide helping resources.It is suitable for everyone who wants to help prevent suicide especially friontline workers such as gardai, clergy, volunteers , parents teachers, citizens  etc,  . These specific skills are called suicide Alertness and are taught with the expectation  that the person learning them will use them to help reduce suicuide risk in their communities. An Garda Siochana in Ballinasloe supports this initiative in the Prevention of Suicide through Awareness and Education.

The safeTALK programme is coordinated and ran by Dr Mary O Sullivan from the National Office for Suicide Prevention.  It is being hosted and Funded in Ballinasloe by G.E.L.S.  This three and hour program will be ran at Gullane’s Hotel on Thursday the 24th of October 2013 from 6p.m. to 9.30p.m.
